Ron Steta grew up in a musical family in Chicago and started playing guitar at the age of 6. By the time he was 12, he was working as a professional guitar teacher for the family music stores. By the time he was 13 he joined the Musicians Union to start working as a professional guitarist. He played in rock and jazz bands all through high school and college including a performance for the legendary drummer, Buddy Rich.
Ron credits his Dad, Boris, an awesome guitarist in his own right, for his early guidance and ability to master all styles of music. I dearly miss him.
“Of all the different styles that I play, places that I’ve been and people I’ve played with, my favorite and most challenging playing was with my Dad, my mentor. If it wasn’t for him, I would have never picked up an instrument.”
The Mid ’80s
During the mid 80’s Ron spent much of his time on the road touring with various classic rocks bands such as The Turtles, Gary Lewis & The Playboys, Gary Puckett and the Union Gap, The Grass Roots, The Monkee’s, Herman’s Hermits, The Byrds, Mark Lindsay, The Village People, The Drifters, The Coasters, The Platters, Shadows of Knight, The Blues Brothers, and more!Ron toured with major bands, and has traveled and performed in the lower 48 of the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia and Japan.
“It was an honor to play for our troops. I met some of the greatest men and women of my life”.
2004 Middle East tour entertaining the troops
Ron spent most of his time back in Chicago writing, recording and playing with a variety of bands while developing a loyal student base. Known as an extraordinary guitar teacher, Ron has a legion of faithful students across the USA.
He is proud to have had the opportunity to entertain the troops all over the Middle East including Iraq, Kuwait, Somalia, Bahrain, Qatar, and UAE with the 101st Rock Division.
2008 to Current
Ron spent many years on the road in Europe, Australia, Asia, Africa, North and South America, a total of 141 countries over the ten year period, seven years on Princess Cruise Line, two years on Regent Cruise Lines performing as a solo guitarist, as well as playing with a full orchestra, singers and dancers in the main theater.
Currently I am performing with many talented musicians in the Chicagoland area, and teaching 100’s of students, which brings great joy and sense of accomplishment for me!
I have many things to be grateful for, my beautiful wife Bonny, my lovely daughter Lindsay, and the rest of my family in California. I am also blessed to be performing at the Lakeside Worship Center in Plainfield, Illinois on most Sunday mornings with the outrageous voice of Renae Taylor and her uplifting husband Pastor Dennis Taylor, and great singers and musicians I’m blessed to play with.”
